ABOUT ME
My name is Anna Ringqvist, and I am an integrative humanistic counsellor. In our therapy sessions, I will meet you with warmth, empathy and acceptance. I will always show a genuine interest in understanding you and your experience. It is my belief that strengthening our sense of safety, agency, and connection, as well as increasing our capacity for acceptance, is the foundation of all therapeutic work. I work in an integrative way, drawing on my studies of Person-Centred theory, Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt, Mindfulness, Trauma-informed practice, and Focusing/Somatic work.
My work as a counsellor with the NHS at Sussex Cancer Centre has taught me a lot. I feel both proud and grateful to be part of this service. I have experience of working with a variety of themes. These include cancer, grief and loss, loneliness, depression, anxiety, stress, family and relationships, carer issues, trauma, ADHD, autism, migration, displacement, and intercultural issues. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP.
Before I became a therapist, I was a teacher for many years. I loved my job, working with children and families from a variety of backgrounds. What I found so rewarding was not the teaching itself, but the connection and communication, the humanistic aspects of being a teacher. After a family crisis, counselling helped me process what had happened. It inspired me to become a counsellor myself. After three years of counselling studies I qualified, and I have never felt more fulfilled in any job I have had.
